There are many important reasons for studying Classics, not least understanding humanity and Western Civilisation. It is also a great foundation for understanding English grammar and vocabulary, and developing analytical skills and a whole fleet (classis in Latin) of subjects which cross History, Poetry, Philosophy, Drama, Science and Politics.I found a flair for Latin when starting upper school and was then myself privately tutored in Classical Greek, by a very inspirational Classics Master, four times a week before the school day started. I gained first place in Northern Ireland in AS level Classical Greek, with 100% in the language papers, before graduating in Classics at Durham University. It has been a joy to share my passion for the Classical languages. All my students have achieved the top grades in these examinations, whether tutoring for short-term goals or teaching the curriculum over the course of years to independent learners.
